About

Engineer by training. Designer by instinct. Builder by compulsion.

Ashraff is a software engineer, product design engineer and freelance builder based in Kuala Lumpur — but the titles barely cover it.

He started in robotics, trained AI systems to make three-legged machines walk, then spent time flying experimental drones for a defence company and designing furniture prototypes for startups. Somewhere along the way, he became the person organisations call when they have a problem that doesn't quite fit any job description.

His work tends to live at the edges of things: between the technical and the human, the automated and the intuitive. He builds logistics systems that feel simple to use and are quietly sophisticated underneath. He builds creative tools that give entire teams the power of a specialist. He has a habit of learning how something works — really works, from first principles — before he decides how to improve it.

Outside of work, Ashraff trains West Coast Swing with the same intensity most people reserve for competitive sport, studies tai chi, and designs and prints physical objects whenever a problem seems better solved in three dimensions than two.

He's particularly drawn to work where technology serves people who aren't especially interested in technology — and where the measure of success is whether someone can use it without thinking about it.

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Currently open to interesting problems.

If any of this sounds like your problem, I'd like to hear about it.
